I remember being maybe 8 or 9 listening to his albums and dancing around in my lounge room. Back then I never listened to the lyrics (I still don't... i like listening to songs as a whole without knowing what the lyrics are) and I attribute my fear of the song "Man in the mirror" to this fact. I always thought he was talking about some ghost he always saw when he looked in the mirror. Now that I'm older (maybe wiser) I understand what the song is about and is now one of my favourites. Another favourite of mine is undoubtedly everybody else's favourite- Remember the time. I could go on and list many others like: Dangerous (very sexy song), They don't really care about us, Don't stop til you get enough etc etc.
Watching his videos/dvds all over again really made me see how incredible a dancer and singer MJ really was. My all time favourite clip would have to be Smooth Criminal. I absolutely love the fact that every movement of every person in the clip is choreographed and tells the story. I think it's genius. Also, maybe it's because I'm a sucker for guys in suits and it's a double whammy if they can dance, DAYMNN haha. I particularly like the brief dance between MJ and the girl *swoon*
I'm not too sure if I've seen choreography like it... most of the choreography I've seen just compliments the story... And don't talk to me about that abstract shit.
I majored in Drama for my undergrad and it was my best study score (not to boast, but the best score for my high school) and for some reason we love to study the abstract part of drama. I used to be spellbound by it all but to be honest, sometimes I don't like to think what it could mean and leave endings open-ended and up to your imagination and sometimes abstract or otherwise affectionately called "Interpretive dance" looks stupid and leaves you thinking "wow, that director must be nuts". lol. I have seen one too many.
